You can add funds to your Routable Balance in two ways:
- By having Routable debit a connected bank account on your behalf
- By pushing an ACH credit from your bank to your workspace's virtual account number (VAN)
This article walks through both options and when to use each.
Two ways to add funds
Both methods deposit funds into the same Routable Balance. The right choice depends on how much control you want over timing and amount.
- Have Routable debit your connected bank — You request a transfer inside Routable, and we pull the funds from a bank account you've connected. This is the simplest option if you don't need to leave Routable to move money.
- Push from your bank using your VAN — You initiate an ACH credit from your external bank to your workspace's unique routing and account number. You control the amount and timing, and transfer size is governed by your bank's limits, not by Routable.
Have Routable debit your connected bank
If you've connected a bank account to your Routable workspace, you can request a transfer from inside Routable and we'll initiate an ACH debit against that account on your behalf. The funds land in your Routable Balance once the debit settles.
Because Routable is initiating the transfer with your bank, the time it takes for funds to arrive depends on how quickly your bank normally processes and completes ACH debits.
Push funds from your bank using your VAN
Your Routable Balance has its own virtual account number (VAN) — a unique routing and account number pair assigned to your workspace. You can use it to push funds directly from your external bank into Routable, the same way you would send money to any business account.
Because you initiate the transfer from your own bank, VAN funding gives you:
- Greater control — you choose the amount and timing of each transfer.
- Higher funding limits — transfer size is governed by your bank, not by Routable-imposed caps.
- Faster funding — settlement speed depends on your bank's ACH cutoffs.
- Simpler reconciliation — funds route directly to your workspace balance.
To fund your balance using your VAN:
- Go to the Balance page in Routable and locate the section displaying your routing number, account number, and associated bank details.
- Log in to your external bank and start a new ACH transfer (also called an ACH credit, external transfer, or business payment, depending on your bank).
- Enter the routing number, account number, and bank address shown on your Balance page.
- Enter the amount and submit the payment from your bank.
Most U.S. business bank accounts send ACH transfers as Next-Day ACH by default, so funds typically settle into your Routable Balance the next business day. Once the transfer settles, your balance updates automatically and the incoming transaction appears on your transactions page.
| ✋ Send only ACH credits to your VAN. Wires and instant payments to a VAN are not supported today and may be returned or rejected by the receiving bank. |
