In some instances, a bank may require a signature instead of the computer-generated signatures we create for our checks. By sending us your signature, we can create an image that will be accepted!
Note: If you do not send us a signature, your checks will use a computer-generated signature with your Business Representative’s name. You can view your Business Representative on the Business representatives page (Account Settings > Business Representatives)
Follow the guidelines below to prepare your check signature image so our team can process your signature update.
General guidelines 👌
To ensure your signature works correctly and banks accept your checks, your check signature file must meet these specific requirements:
- Signature color and background: Signed in black ink on a transparent background
- File format: Saved as a .png file
- Dimensions:
- Recommended: 1050px wide and 215px tall
- Minimum: 400px wide and 120px tall
🎨 You can use remove.bg ↗ to remove the background and give you a .png file that meets these requirements
✂️ You can use Simple Image Resizer ↗ to resize and crop you image
Warning: Check processing may be delayed
Check processing may be delayed until the signature update is complete. To ensure the most efficient updates possible, ensure your submitted signature file meets the image requirements.
THINGS TO AVOID 🚫
Avoid these common mistakes to prevent processing delays or rejected payments:
Avoid patterned paper
Write your signature on a white or a light colored background to ensure proper background removal and processing. Ruled or patterned paper may create unintended digital artifacts that interfere with the signature.

Avoid small signatures & extra whitespace
Write your signature large enough so it takes up as much as your image canvas as possible. A large tightly cropped signature will ensure that your signature scales properly without losing detail and so it is printed large enough on your checks. Images smaller than 400px x 120px or images with excessive whitespace will appear too small on your printed checks.

Avoid extra objects or artifacts in your image
If you are taking a photo of your signature rather than using a scanned image, make sure to prepare your photo so that all artifacts and non-signature objects (e.g. tables, pens, dark shadows, etc...) are cropped out. Pens, desk items, shadows, or items may create unintended digital artifacts that interfere with the signature.

How to set up your signature
- Write your signature on a clean piece of plain white paper and scan it or take a high-quality photo
- Crop the image to remove any objects or paper edges
- Use an image editor to set a transparent background and ensure dimensions fall within the required range
- Email your final .png file to support@routable.com for review

Troubleshooting check signatures
Once you submit your file, our team will review it to ensure it meets the requirements.
⚠️ Routable cannot modify signature files on your behalf. All files must be provided directly by you when making this request.
If the image does not meet the requirements, we will ask you to resubmit a corrected version. Most delays occur because:
Image dimensions fall outside the required range
The image background is not fully transparent
