Clearing accounts are GL accounts use to temporarily hold transactions until they are finalized or allocated to the correct permanent account. To record Routable transactions in clearing accounts, you need to enable the clearing accounts feature and match your Routable bank accounts to your clearing GL accounts to ensure that your Routable payments are recorded in the correct GL accounts.
Before you start
- Ensure Routable is connected to your accounting software
- Ensure your bank accounts are added to Routable →
- Ensure your Routable bank accounts are matched to your accounting software bank accounts
Setting up clearing accounts
Enable clearing accounts
- Navigate to your Account Settings > Integration page
- Scroll down to the Clearing accounts section
- In the Money-in and Money-out clearing accounts section, click Use clearing accounts
Match money-in and money-out accounts
Once clearing accounts are enabled, you will need to match them similarly to how you matched your Routable bank accounts to your accounting software's GL bank accounts.
- Navigate to your Account Settings > Integration page
- Scroll down to the Clearing accounts section
- In the Money-in and Money-out clearing accounts section, ensure that the Unmatched filter is selected
- In the Clearing accounts yet to be matched section, identify that account that you want to match
- In the Status and Action column, click the Match button
- On the Match page, use the Match dropdowns to to select the accounting software GL clearing account to record transactions related to the Routable bank account listed at the top of the page. You must select a match GL account for both money-in and money-out transactions.
- Once you select your matching accounts, click the Update clearing accounts button
Repeat this process for each Routable bank account listed. In order to use a Routable bank account, the accounting software must be matched so we recommend working through this process for all of the listed Routable bank accounts.
